Day 60 Friday 13 April Rome – Florence, 283 kms/176 miles, cumulative total: 6,706 kms/4,167 miles

From the Ponte Vecchio I watched a solitary white egret stalking along the water’s edge, then take off and fly across the river and maybe under the bridge, though I lost sight of it behind the jewellers’ shops. I don’t think anyone noticed it but me.

Day 56 Monday 9 April

Sant’Agnello – Rome, Italy 300 kms/186 miles Cumulative: 6,423 kms/3,991 miles

Every arrival is an adventure – maybe they are becoming a little repetitive, the basic challenge is always the same, but there are variations. And very often departures are adventures too. The journeys in between are times for reflection… though they quite often get taken up with su doku.

so here I am, back in Rome, and this time I’ll be staying for 3 nights at least – 3 nights and the days in between.

But I guess it’s time to get out and not sit here…
